DAMON, Texas – At least 10 people ran from the scene Wednesday where a stolen truck got stuck in the mud during a chase in Brazoria County. The chase ended in a field near a river off County Road 4 and County Road 522. According to Rosenberg police, the vehicle was reported stolen from Beeville. The vehicle traveled into Brazoria County before crashing through a fence and get stuck in the mud. According to police, 10 to 15 people jumped from the truck and ran into the brush.

Two George Ranch High school students have tested positive this week for COVID-19, while five employees also tested positive since returning to campus on August 10. The district also said 65 employees have reported positive results as of Wednesday. Of those employees, 11 of them are quarantined at home, and nine of those people are working remotely. According to the district, 55% of students opted for virtual learning while 45% of students selected for in-person.

On Monday, Fort Bend County opened its fifth COVID-19 testing site at 9 a.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Rosenberg. Within an hour, the free testing site had reached its 100 clients daily capacity. The city of Houston’s two, free, drive-through test sites at Butler and Delmar stadiums can perform a combined 1,000 tests daily. “Starting tomorrow, we will be increasing the testing capability capacity at both sites, Delmar and Butler, to 650 per site,” Turner said.

ROSENBERG, Texas – A Houston police officer who was driving the wrong way on the highway when she slammed into a big rig and died in Sealy was driving while drunk, investigators said. Based on toxicology reports, DPS troopers concluded that Gizelle Solorio, 32, was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Investigators determined this was also a contributing factor in the December 2019 crash. Investigators said Solorio was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-10 when she was in a head-on collision with the 18-wheeler in the crash. Solorio worked with the Houston Police Department for about 2.5 years and graduated from the cadet class 230 as the class president, according to HPD Commander Chandra Hatcher.

ROSENBERG, Texas – With thousands out of work in the Houston-area, various charities and businesses are teaming up to help those in need. Friday’s helpers were a combination of a Houston-area non-profit and restaurant chain Texas Roadhouse. Non-profit Attack Poverty has partnered with 30 organizations to help with the COVID-19 crisis, according to CEO Brandon Baca. The Rosenberg Texas Roadhouse stepped in and offered 2,000 meals worth of pork barbecue, bread rolls, chips plus fruit from Brothers Produce. “It’s really important for us at a time like this when times are uncertain,” said Katie Frazier from Texas Roadhouse.
