Storylines are everywhere as the NBA playoffs begin.

Kingwood Park is eyeing another deep run in the playoffs as they begin on Thursday. Prior to last season, which was halted due to COVID-19, Kingwood Park girls soccer had made the UIL State Tournament for two-straight seasons and was seeking a third-straight trip to Georgetown. In 2021, Kingwood Park is once again dominated District 20-5A play. The Lady Panthers went a perfect 14-0 and outscored opponents by 57 goals. VYPE traveled out to Kingwood Park a few weeks ago to talk to the Lady Panthers on preparing for another deep playoff run in 2021.

Baytown Lee is heading to the playoffs for the first time since 2009. VYPE Media's Joshua Koch sat down with Baytown Lee Tim Finn last week prior to the Thanksgiving break to talk about Baytown Lee's big win over Beaumont United, sealing their ticket to the playoffs and the Ganders getting ready for the big Battle of Baytown against Sterling this week. HOUSTON – The Houston Astros will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the playoffs for the second year in a row, but this time in reversed roles. No big names of offenseDespite the headline, the Rays hit better than the Astros in the regular season (109 OPS+ to 96 OPS+). The Rays had a 2019 All-Star in Austin Meadows, but Meadows hit just .205 in 2020 with an 86 OPS+. He helped put together a team that almost took down a 107-win Houston Astros team in the ALDS. “On a scale of 0 to weird, (it’s) pretty weird,” Click said, as he planned on beating his former team.

HOUSTON – The Los Angeles Lakers are one game away from winning an NBA Championship. This could also be the first one for Los Angles since Kobe Bryant brought the team a championship in 2010. Overall, the Lakers franchise has won 16 championships, 31 conference titles and 23 division titles. Bryant, who tragically died in a helicopter crash with eight others including 13-year-old daughter Gianna in January, won five championships for the Lakers. Many fans took to social media hoping the Lakers would win the NBA Championship in Bryant’s honor.

HOUSTON – The Houston Astros lose to the Oakland Athletics, 9-7, in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday. The Astros remain in control of the series, 2-1. The next game is Thursday at 2:35 p.m.

Nine months after Houston’s rules-breaking, sign-stealing system was revealed, the Astros advanced to the Division Series in Los Angeles. Since that date, the Astros are 43-35 in postseason play, winning 10 of 15 rounds with three trips to the World Series. Nobody on this Twins team has had a hand in more than six of the playoffs losses, but for the second straight year one of baseball’s most potent lineups limped through a brief postseason cameo. In a three-game Diviion Series sweep by the Yankees last year, the Twins totaled seven runs and 22 hits. Manager Rocco Baldelli declined to confirm whether Buxton was experiencing a recurrence of concussion symptoms that kept him out of the last two regular season games.

The wild card round will land in the Twins house with their best of three series set to begin on Tuesday at Target Field. The Astros offense needs to score runs in this series if they want a chance to advance. Their pitching needs to come through with the likes of Grienke, McCullers, Urquidy and Valdez. HOUSTON – The wait is finally over and although the lost again in Arlington to the Rangers they have punched their playoff ticket thanks to the Angels loss late Friday night to the Dodgers. The Astros , who felll to the Rangers Friday in extra innings, are headed to the playoffs for a fourth straight season. They will finish the weekend against Texas and wait on their first round wild card opponent. Entering Saturday they will play a best of three series against either the A’s, Twins, White Sox or Indians. Friday night they could have clinched with a win over Texas but the bullpen again blew leads in both the 9th and 10th innings and fell 5-4.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Houston Rockets dropped their fourth game Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals. The final score was 110-100. The Lakers now lead the best-of-seven series 3-1.

HOUSTON After a commanding 123-108 win over the Thunder in Game 1, the Rockets look to continue that momentum Thursday afternoon for Game 2. Midseason acquisition Jeff Green added 22 points, and with him on the floor, the Rockets outscored the Thunder by 28 points. If the Rockets can continue to score by committee, they should easily cruise through Game 2 and take a 2-0 lead in the series. The BeardJames Harden had a game-high of 37 points and he posted his 20th career playoff game with 35 points or more. Harden also grabbed 11 rebounds in Game 1, which is huge because the Rockets are all-in on playing small.

Major League Baseball released a nine-page report from Commissioner Rob Manfred, issuing punishment and context behind the Astros sign-stealing allegations. The MLB’s investigation found the original idea was to have a runner in the replay room decode the signs, then call Astros Bench Coach Alex Cora. According to MLB’s investigation, Hinch never explicitly told players to stop the conduct, but believed it was wrong and distracting. ALEX CORAAccording to the report, Alex Cora was heavily involved in developing both the original plan and the trash can-banging scheme. At age 24, it wasn’t that long ago that Watson was the quarterback for the Clemson Tigers. But Watson came in hot, erasing that 14 point deficit to help the Tigers win, 35-31. Last night, Watson did something even more impressive, leading the Texans to a 16-point comeback victory in the Wild Card game. In his post-game interview, Watson told Lisa Salters, “Somebody had to be great, why not me?”Watson’s legacy of greatness, it seems, could just be beginning. Deandre Hopkins wasn’t surprised, saying in his post-game interview, “Man, that’s just Deshaun.”Now, Texans fans hope Watson can turn it up next week in the divisional round.
