A New Orleans native who owns an oyster restaurant on the southwest side is holding a fundraiser, intended to support families of the victims of the New Year’s Day terrorist attack on Bourbon Street.

A day after a deadly truck attack which killed 14 people and injured dozens of others, New Orleans’ Bourbon Street reopened with a massive police presence Thursday.

With the Chevron Houston Marathon just 16 days away, safety concerns have escalated following the terror attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

Yellow police tape spans for roughly three city blocks in New Orleans French Quarter the evening after a man drove a truck down Bourbon Street and into a crowd of people celebrating the new year.

As of 10 p.m. New Year’s Day, onlookers could see a group of law enforcement officials wearing tactical gear at a property in north Harris County surrounding a tactical vehicle. They’d been here for several hours.
