As travel quickly resumes to normal, I can only imagine the crowds coming to the beaches for Spring Break. With good reason, the NWS has declared this week Rip Current and Beach Hazard Awareness Week. Last year, one rip current death occurred along Texas shores with as many as 76 nationwide.

The NWS put out the chart below showing the cold we went through, in terms of time: 44 hours straight of at or below freezing! Are we ready for a HOT start to May?

Read full article: Are we ready for a HOT start to May?

First, our record for Tuesday, May 5th is 94 from 1986, and right now we’re forecasting 94 (with a feels-like temperature near 100). Check out the Austin-San Antonio region where forecasters are calling for the very real chance to reach 100 degrees! I always talk about a southwest wind being a hot, dry wind for us and we’re expecting a large high pressure down in Mexico. Clockwise winds around that high will generate a strong southwest wind. The mini-heatwave won’t last long as another front arrives Wednesday, but get ready: Cinco de Mayo will be muy caliente!
