A massive search has stretched into its second day for a man who authorities say posed as a police officer and fatally shot a Democratic state lawmaker in her suburban Minneapolis home.

Melissa Hortman lived the deep partisan divide that Americans talk about every day as a Minnesota House member.

A Minnesota state representative, Melissa Hortman, and her husband were killed, while State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were injured in separate shootings considered "targeted political violence."

Democrats took full control of state government as the Minnesota Legislature convened for its 2023 session Tuesday.
