Yet only two days later, on Aug. 28, 1963, the FBIโ€™s head of domestic intelligence, William C. Sullivan, sounded an internal alarm on King. Absolutely not.โ€™ In some ways, you could even say we were a little bit complicit.โ€On one hand, โ€œMLK/FBIโ€ enhances the legacy of King. Not just Kingโ€™s indiscretions but an explosive and controversial allegation discovered by Garrow in FBI records that King watched while a woman was sexually assaulted. โ€œA big part of my thinking two years ago is that everyone needs to be prepared for what will be in the full transcripts and the surviving tapes," Garrow said. Los Angeles continues to see hospitalizations rise day after day, setting a new record Tuesday with almost 8,000 hospitalized and more than a fifth of those in intensive care units. The San Joaquin Valley and Southern California regions have been hardest hit, with no more capacity in ICUs to treat COVID-19 patients. Ambulance crews in Los Angeles County on Monday were directed to stop transporting patients they canโ€™t resuscitate in the field. Dr. Marc Eckstein, medical director and emergency medical services commander of the LA Fire Department, said the directive recognizes that such scenarios are โ€œall risk and no gainโ€ at this time. The hospital has a 10-bed ICU but has expanded that level of care to three sections of the hospital and is treating 36 patients.

Dr. Horne is author of Fire This Time: The Watts Uprising And The 1960s, a historical account of the 1965 event in Watts, California. Horne said protests following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968 are the closet comparison to this past weekend with protests occurring in cities nationwide. But on the other have what that means is much difficult to control whats going on in the streets, Dr. Horne said.
