Flames ripped through an apartment building in north Houston overnight. The fire was reported around 10 p.m. Friday at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Woerner Road, near Kuykendahl Road. When fire crews arrived, they observed heavy fire and smoke coming from an apartment building at the complex. 16 apartment units sustained some combination of fire, smoke and water damage, said Rachel Neutzler, Director of Communications with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of the fire was due to “improperly discarded charcoal from a BBQ pit on a second-floor balcony,” according to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office.

SPRING, Texas – The road widening construction has started this month on Kuykendahl Road. The construction contractor, WadeCon LLC, began the construction after the project was approved for funding from the 2015 road bond by voters. The bid amount for the project construction was $3,566,246 and it is a 1 -year contract, according to a news release. The project will complete a four-lane boulevard from Lake Woodlands Drive to Research Forest Drive. - The two existing lanes will become the southbound lanes once construction is completed.

SPRING, Texas – Two men were killed Monday during a confrontation turned shooting at a north Harris County apartment complex, deputies said. The shooting was reported about 10:45 a.m. at the Ravinia Apartments on Spring Rain Drive. According to Harris County deputies, 26-year-old Devinn Dufy encountered two men who were breaking into his apartment -- Ronnie Williams, 30, and Ahmond Mason, 29. Deputies said Dufy struggled with the two men which escalated to a shooting. Dufy and Mason were killed and guns were found near their bodies, deputies said.
