KLEIN, Texas – Several people were injured Friday in a large natural gas explosion and fire near Klein that prompted an evacuation of some residents in the area. Officials from the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said that a crew from Comcast was working in the area and nicked a natural gas line. The crew called in a CenterPoint crew to inspect the line which is when two lines exploded, officials said. KLEIN – Bobbi Pfleger’s daughter knew something was wrong when she tried to start her mother’s SUV Tuesday in the parking lot at Klein Collins High School. “It sounded really really bad,” Pfleger recalled. “She was afraid to keep it running.”Once Pfleger’s husband arrived at the campus they discovered the vehicle’s two catalytic converters had been stolen -- just one of three converter thefts in the high school parking lot that very same day. The thieves are looking for atypical targets these days like high school parking lots. There are cameras in the parking lot but they are looking for leads.

Katy Seven Lakes defeated the Klein Bearkats 3-1 in four sets in Garland on Saturday to become the UIL Conference 6A Volleyball State Champions. Klein was able to win set one by a score of 26-24 over Seven Lakes. Seven Lakes was able to turn it around and rallied from behind with a score of 18-12. Seven Lakes got out to an early lead and came out with a win over Klein by a score of 25-20. Seven Lakes was able to pull off a 25-22 win to win the championship match.

KLEIN, Texas – Students in the Klein Independent School District who are failing their online classes will be required to transition to in-person instruction unless they have a medical exemption. The only exception will be for students who have a medical exemption form that is signed by a doctor. Officials said dates for this transition will be provided to parents by their child’s school. This plan differs from a plan announced by officials at the Deer Park Independent School District on Thursday. The so-called Reboot 2021 plan aims to bring all students back to the classroom after the start of the new year, with medical exemptions for some students.

As Klein and Friendswood remain constants, the rest of the volleyball landscape in Houston is a little bumpy. Fulshear is getting used to Class 5A, but took an early "L" to Concordia Lutheran. Speaking of "Sader Nation", Concordia Lutheran has beaten Class 4A State Champ Fulshear and SPC Champ Episcopal. HOUSTON - When Gaby Mansfield was 14-years-old, she knew then that she wanted to play collegiate volleyball. In the end, the Klein junior decided to stay close to home verbally committing to Genny Volpe's Rice Owls. When looking at Rice, the university is in the Top 10 academically. 1 team Klein Bearkats, who's 2020 season begins in the next week with Class 6A volleyball being pushed back a month due to COVID-19. Teammates Devan Taylor (Clemson) and Annie Antar (University of North Florida-Indoor) are also verbally committed to play college volleyball.

KLEIN, Texas – Klein ISD released its plan Friday for reopening school in five and a half weeks. Adcox is an 11th grader at Klein High School and believes it’s best if she stays home for school. “I think it’ll be more likely for me to catch it and spread it to someone who’s more vulnerable, so I don’t want that to happen,” she said. In the district’s plan, parents can pick Klein on campus or Klein online. “We’ve been working so hard amidst these challenging circumstances to design the best possible to reopening Klein ISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown in a video to the community.

KLEIN, Texas – Two students have been charged following the firework explosion inside Klein Forest High School that sent the campus into a panic. According to authorities, the two students were arrested and charged with arson after the intentionally ignited a firework that was placed inside another container in the cafeteria Tuesday. “I’m proud of our partnerships with Klein ISD Police, local law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office. Our officers were able to quickly identify the suspects, obtain confessions, and file charges.”According to Klein Independent School District Police Department, this incident happened in the cafeteria during fifth period causing panic among students and teachers. All Klein Forest High School after-school activities, including home and away activities, were canceled, district officials wrote.
