HOUSTON Brazoria County has put restrictions in place for island access on Independence Day weekend, starting on Saturday through Monday. Judge Matt Sebesta has closed island access from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Quintana/Bryan Beach, Folletts Island, and Surfside Beach. Residents and beach house rentals, as well as RV campgrounds rentals will be allowed access with proof of residency or rental. If an unsafe capacity on the islands is reached prior to 11 a.m., the access time could change, according to the judges office. A news release reads, This access closure is to ensure emergency management and first responder resources can access the beach areas if an emergency arises.

Wednesday is the first day of fireworks sales for the Fourth of July season. “We have a wide variety of products for everything you want to do,” said Sue Davis, who works at one of the Top Dog locations. “If you’re going to have a big show with everybody, wear your mask, social-distance, wash your hands, be safe,” Davis said. The last day to buy fireworks is midnight, July 4th.

Greg Abbott announced phase 3 of reopening Texas, including guidelines for newly permitted outdoor events ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. According to the guidelines, outdoor events with more than 500 people are permissible in Texas, but organizers must coordinate with local and county officials to provide safety protocols to safely hold the event and to retrieve approval. Factors to consider include the likelihood of individuals 65 or older attending the event and the countys level of COVID-19 transmission. Safety protocols for outdoor events include the following:Groups of a maximum of 10 people must maintain six feet of distance between other groups or peopleGuests must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before attending eventFace coverings are strongly recommended for guests, required for event workersTo read the full guidelines for outdoor events, click here.
