RICHMOND, Texas โ€“ The 8,000 vaccine appointment slots that were opened in Fort Bend County on Tuesday morning have been filled. Fort Bend County Judge KP George held a news conference to announce a new round of registration after the county received thousands of doses of the coronavirus vaccine. During the news conference, George said Fort Bend County had been officially designated as a vaccine hub, meaning the county will now be receiving regular doses of the vaccine. George said people can register when new doses are received by going to the Fort Bend County website. HOUSTON โ€“ Fort Bend Bend County Judge KP George extended the countyโ€™s mask order until July 31, the county announced Tuesday. The order requires all commercial entities within Fort Bend County that provided goods and services directly to the public, to require that all employees and visitors to wear face coverings or masks. We must continue making decisions that unequivocally put people above politics and protect human life.โ€Additional details on the Mask Up Order can be found here. The Fort Bend County mask mandate extension came on the same day as an extension in Harris County as well. Earlier Tuesday, Harris County Commissioners voted 3-2 to extend the countyโ€™s disaster declaration which included a mask mandate, through August 26.

RICHMOND โ€“ Fort Bend County judge said heโ€™s concerned about plans to send prisoners recovering from coronavirus to part of the Jester prison in Richmond. "I was shocked to find out that the State of Texas has been using Fort Bend County as a dumping ground for convicted criminals with coronavirus," Judge KP George said in a statement. He said the location was chosen because of its proximity to a prison hospital, and the unit was cleared out before the recovering prisoners arrived. "This is a state prison facility. Desel said employees who come into contact with the recovering prisoners will wear protective gear.
