HIGHLANDS, Texas – A man was shot and killed early Sunday in the Highlands area, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. When they went outside, they saw the victim lying in a yard and observed a black Dodge Charger and possibly another vehicle, a black Ford Ranger, fleeing the scene. The Dodge Charger drove northbound while the Ford Ranger drove southbound. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call Houston Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.

HIGHLANDS, Texas – A car was pulled from a Harris County canal Thursday after a woman admitted to being involved in a homicide, deputies said. According to investigators, a woman reported early Tuesday that her boyfriend had gone missing while going to pick up a friend of hers Monday night. She told investigators that she was talking to her boyfriend when she heard some commotion followed by the cellphone going dead. On Tuesday afternoon, investigators said, a woman, identified as 32-year-old Fransha Brooks, called 911 and reported that she had been involved in a homicide. Deputies said they searched the canal for two days and were able to locate the vehicle Thursday afternoon.

HIGHLANDS, Texas – A head-on crash in Highlands, Texas, left two adults dead and a toddler hospitalized with broken bones Thursday, Harris County sheriff’s deputies said. Investigators said two Chevy Silverado trucks collided head-on in the 1700 block of South Main Street around 9:51 p.m. Both drivers, a man and a 32-year-old woman, died at the scene, deputies said. “It’s a new year and sadly it’s the same story,” Sean Teare, with the Harris County District Attorney’s Vehicular Crimes Task Force said. An adult male, suspected of driving intoxicated, struck an adult female driver (32) head-on.

HIGHLANDS, Texas – A woman is shaken and a man has been taken to a hospital after that man lost control of his dump truck and crashed into an east Harris County home. The incident happened around 2:25 a.m. Thursday on South Main Street near Faith Street in the Highlands area, authorities said. Deputies said the truck was traveling northbound on South Main Street when the driver came across low hanging power lines. Stewart said he told his wife to call 911 and ran outside to check on the driver and his neighbor. She was shaken up.”Authorities said the driver of the truck was located walking southbound on Main Street towards I-10.

HOUSTON – Twenty dogs were seized from two properties in the Highlands owned by the same person on Tuesday, according to the Houston Humane Society. Officers began investigating 100 Grace Lane and 111 Grace Lane after a bite case involving a dog was reported. HHS said many of the dogs were confined to kennels covered in filth and feces, and their environment was so deplorable it was hazardous to their health. The canines are suffering from medical conditions including tumors, skin diseases and eye traumas. All the dogs are with the HHS and are being evaluated and treated by a veterinary medical team.
