HOUSTON – He’s only 14 years old, but Jayson Kimberly has raised thousands of dollars for homeless animals, while educating his fellow students about this cause. He talked to Houston Life about how he dedicates himself to animals in need through his nonprofit, Leave it for the Pooch. KLEIN – Bobbi Pfleger’s daughter knew something was wrong when she tried to start her mother’s SUV Tuesday in the parking lot at Klein Collins High School. “It sounded really really bad,” Pfleger recalled. “She was afraid to keep it running.”Once Pfleger’s husband arrived at the campus they discovered the vehicle’s two catalytic converters had been stolen -- just one of three converter thefts in the high school parking lot that very same day. The thieves are looking for atypical targets these days like high school parking lots. There are cameras in the parking lot but they are looking for leads.

KINGWOOD, Texas – Kingwood High School honored longtime volleyball head coach, Krista Malmstrom, with a ceremony and dedication Wednesday afternoon. During the ceremony, the school renamed its volleyball court after Malmstrom during the game between Kingwood High School and Kingwood Park High School, according to a release. The ceremony was held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kingwood High School Gym. Malmstrom has been with Humble Independent School District since 1981 at Creekwood Middle School before she moved on to work at Kingwood High School three years later as the Lady Mustangs assistant volleyball coach. In 1996, Malmstrom was awarded Houston Area Coach of the Year and also a two-time coach at the UIL All-Star Volleyball Game.

HOUSTON – Two Houston-area school districts are starting to reveal how they will handle games and crowds at their stadiums and other athletic venues. Galveston ISDIn the era of COVID-19, fans coming to see the first Ball High School football game on Sept. 25 will notice some big changes. Seating capacity in all of the district’s venues will be no more than 25% until further notice. Katy ISDKaty ISD will only allow 50% capacity at its sports venues until future notice. MAGNOLIA HIGH SCHOOLA senior at Magnolia High School is not playing on the football field, but helping in other ways after he suffered a terrible injury. “When you’re given the option of risk permanent nerve damage or play football, that’s a pretty simple choice,” said Magnolia High School football coach Craig Martin. SHADOW CREEK HIGH SCHOOLA senior at Shadow Creek High School has fought against injuries and has become a standout on the field and the classroom. Burns was a senior linebacker at Alvin ISD’s Shadow Creek High School.

ARLINGTON – The emotional season came to an end for the Woodlands Highlanders in disappointing fashion as the team lost in the state championship game, 41-13 to Lake Travis. The Woodlands came into the 6A Division I title game undefeated after persevering through tough circumstances when one of their teammates Grant Milton suffered a brain injury during an early round playoff game. Thousands of fans made the trip from the Woodlands to Arlington for the game, showing tremendous support for Milton and his family. His familiar number 21 jersey t-shirts could be seen throughout AT&T StadiumPlayers wore socks with Milton’s number 21 displayed and their helmets had number 21 stickers on them as well. It was the second state title appearance for the Woodlands, who last played for the championship in 2003.
