Read full article: Harris County doctor sentenced in $16M Medicare fraud scheme, authorities say

HOUSTON – A Texas physician was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday for a $16 million Medicare fraud scheme, federal officials said. Hamilton was convicted by a federal jury of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, one count of conspiracy to solicit and receive health care kickbacks, and two counts of false statements relating to health care matters in October 2019. Members of the conspiracy paid the patients to receive the home health care services, which were often medically unnecessary, not provided, or both, the news release said. Hamilton typically would not release the home health care paperwork until the home health care companies or their marketers paid her the kickback, authorities said, citing evidence from the case. Federal authorities said the scheme resulted in approximately millions in false and fraudulent claims for home-health services to Medicare and in Hamilton receiving over $300,000 in kickbacks.

Child care crisis pushes US mothers out of the labor force

Read full article: Child care crisis pushes US mothers out of the labor force

Research is increasingly pointing to a retreat of working mothers from the U.S. labor force as the pandemic leaves parents with few child care options and the added burden of navigating distance learning. In the long-term, the crisis could stall if not reverse decades of hard-fought gains by working women who are still far from achieving labor force parity with men. Overall, the drop translates into 1.3 million women exiting the labor force since February. Between February and April, labor force participation fell 3.2% among mothers with children younger than 6, and 4.3% for those with children 6 to 12. We already knew there was a large gender inequality in the labor force, and the pandemic just makes this worse, Landivar said.

Read full article: 5 musicals that should be filmed for a streaming network since Broadway is still closed

Considering Disney+ saw a 72% increase in downloads of its app over the weekend, it’s safe to say that bringing musicals filmed on stage to a mass audience is a pretty good idea. Some will argue that theater is meant to be consumed live, but with so much uncertainty about when Broadway will return, it’s not a bad idea to start filming more Broadway musicals and plays for streaming networks. While it’s still a wildly popular musical, fans have been begging for some sort of movie version for years. Disney’s most popular and long-running show on Broadway is “The Lion King,” and it’s hard to imagine the people wouldn’t love to watch a filmed version of this production. Do you plan to watch “Hamilton?” Are there any musicals you’d like to see from the comfort of your home?

Since there’s likely to be a good chunk of people who will watch “Hamilton” over the weekend who’ve probably never seen it before, here is a quick rundown of what you need to know before experiencing the phenomenon. The “Hamilton” on Disney+ is a filmed version of the show, not a movie. It’s easy to call the version of “Hamilton” coming out on Disney+ a movie, but technically, it’s the stage version, filmed. An actual movie version of “Hamilton” will probably happen eventually, but this is a great way to really capture the magic of the stage version of the show. And because the people at Disney are incredibly smart, free trials of the streaming service have ended, so if you want to watch, you’re going to have to sign up.

Women sue after roadside cavity search

BRAZORIA COUNTY – Brandy Hamilton and Alexandria Randle spoke publicly for the first time since filing a lawsuit against the state and Brazoria County after cavity searches on the side of 288, in Brazoria County on Memorial Day, a year ago. The search was caught on a 40 minute dash camera video as a DPS trooper pulled the two women over. The women believed they were searched in full view of the male trooper and three Brazoria County sheriff's deputies. Both women say the search was not only humiliating but also a health issue and Trooper Bui never changed her rubber gloves between the exams of the two women. Local 2 legal analyst Brian Wice said body cavity searches are reserved for incarceration, not for road side stops.
