The Elkins Knights continue their dominant 12-1 season with a win against the George Ranch Longhorns by a final score of 59-46. This intense game was held at George Ranch on January 20, 2021. Here's a look into the action brought by the Longhorns and the Knights.

George Ranch has been a consistent player in the Houston-area girls basketball scene for a long time. First-team, all-district picks Savannah Velazquez and Amillion Fowler are back in the mix. Velazquez led the team averaging 14 points, four rebounds and three assists per game; while Fowler averaged 7.4 points, six rebounds and three assists per game. Also returning is second-team, all-district pick Gabby Owens, who averaged 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Keys to success for Shalesha Pierce's crew this year will include communication, staying healthy and rebounding.

KPRC Friday Football Frenzy Plays of the Week are back. Here are the Week 7 Plays of the Week:Bronze: Klein Wide Receiver Markel Hall returns a punt 75 yards down the sideline for a touchdown. Silver: George Ranch pulls off trickery with the backup kicker drilling a successful onside kick, leading to a long touchdown pass the very next play. Gold: Rayburn running back Agustin Paniagua breaks a couple of tackles on his way to a 74 yard rushing touchdown.

Bridgeland fell to Cypress Ranch in a big loss while Oak Ridge rolled Grand Oaks to get back in the Top 10. Memorial has a big week facing Stratford and Cy-Fair, while George Ranch faces Ridge Point for the district title. The Woodlands face Oak Ridge and up and comer Grand Oaks. The George Ranch High School volleyball team is currently sitting at 16-2, dominating the Houston area. “I think it’s really good that we have a lot of depth in every position,” Lednicky said. “I think that’s a huge benefit,” Schimaitis said. “I definitely think that we can make it to state and win state,” Tennon said. It’s not something that I’ve had to impress upon them, and I think that’s what makes a team special, when it’s owned by the team and not pushed up on them by the coach.”

As Klein and Friendswood remain constants, the rest of the volleyball landscape in Houston is a little bumpy. The Woodlands lost back-to-back matches last week to St. Agnes and Klein, allowing for Seven Lakes, Dawson and George Ranch to gain ground in the Top 5. Grand Oak moves back into the Class 6A Top 10. 1 but just lost to Episcopal. However, St. Agnes beat Episcopal during the same round-robin.
