Dogs took over Galveston’s 27th Street Beach for the 12th Annual Ohana Surf Dog Competition, drawing a record crowd and raising crucial funds for the Galveston Island Humane Society. From seasoned surfers to first-timers, these dogs made waves while supporting pet adoption, medical care, and spay/neuter programs.

Surf’s up and tails are wagging! The 12th Annual Ohana Surf Dog Competition returns to Galveston’s 27th Street Beach on Saturday, July 19, bringing four-legged surfers, beach fun, and community support for the Galveston Island Humane Society’s animal care programs.

The Galveston Island Humane Society (GIHS) invites the public to a free, community-wide event hosted by Frances Moody Buzbee on Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Moody Mansion, located at 2618 Broadway.

On Monday, 71 dogs, cats and puppies were rescued after being found in deplorable conditions on a school bus in Galveston Island State Park. On Tuesday, the Galveston Island Humane Society said they found three of the dogs had microchips and one dog had a rabies tag. They were able to identify all four dogs, A’rhx, Bentley, Pyros and Cheyenne.
