HOUSTON – Texas will receive more than one million first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week, state health officials said. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the state will distribute more than 818,410 first doses and 587,950 second doses to providers in 202 of the state’s counties. Harris County Public Health and Houston Health Department have 10,000 doses each allocated for this week. Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center has more than 12,000 allocated doses. As of Friday, Texas providers have administered more than 10 million doses of the vaccine, 1.2 million of those administered in the last week.

HOUSTON – Tens of thousands of additional coronavirus vaccines are headed to the Houston area this week. More than 60,000 doses will be sent to vaccine hubs in the Houston area. The Houston Health Department said nearly 6,400 doses will go to the department’s Area Agency on Aging. City and state leaders came together Saturday to discuss vaccination distribution efforts in high risk and vulnerable communities. AdMayor Sylvester Turner said the city plans to fight racial inequities and disparity by targeting minority communities in vaccine distribution.

HOUSTON – Fort Bend Independent School District announced that it is changing from in-person to online learning at 12 campuses on Monday due to COVID-19 staffing issues. The data shows a significant impact on the district’s ability to properly staff the campuses, causing a disruption that would prevent FBISD from continuing face-to-face instruction at this time. The district said it has upgraded its previously listed campuses from Level 2 (yellow) to level 3 (red), according to FBISD COVID Response Plan. Fort Bend ISD said it intends to return to face-to-face instruction when it can and promised a status update at the end of next week. It is also important that you monitor for symptoms, stay home and see a physician if you exhibit symptoms of COVID-19.

HOUSTON – A former Fort Bend County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with criminal negligent homicide in the shooting death of a 37-year-old deputy constable in the Sienna Plantation area of Missouri City in May. Chadwick Devin McRae, 49, of Stafford, is charged in the death of Caleb Rule, records show. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office released a statement about McRae, saying he was terminated following an internal investigation due to violation of the office’s Use of Force Policy as it related to Rule’s death. “This situation is tragic,” Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian M. Middleton said. And the death of Deputy Rule, who was on duty serving his community at the time of his death, is an unbearable loss for his wife, children, and extended family.”The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office referred questions to the Texas Rangers, as the lead investigative agency, and the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office.

HOUSTON – Fort Bend County officials announced the second phase of the Fort Bend County Coronavirus Rental, Mortgage & Utility Assistance Program opens Monday. Fort Bend County Judge KP George announced on Facebook that applications will be accepted from July 20 through July 31 or until the funds are expended, whichever comes first. Fort Bend County is opening up phase two for their rental, mortgage and utility assistance program. “We are helping those who are in real need in Fort Bend County,” said Fort Bend County Judge KP George. You have not received rental assistance from any other source for the same period of time as requested from this program.

HOUSTON – The Fort Bend Independent School District will begin the 2020-21 school year entirely online, the Board of Trustees decided Monday night. “Fort Bend ISD will begin the 2020-21 School Year 100% online in order to give students, parents and staff an opportunity to adjust to online learning and safety procedures,” officials tweeted. Here’s what you need to know:No in-person extracurriculars will be held during the start of the school year when students are learning entirely online. Engagement in online learning will be required on a daily basis. All staff, students and visitors will undergo a non-contact temperature check prior to entering FBISD schools and facilities.

On Friday, Fort Bend County authorities announced they arrested 33-year-old Timothy Holloway. Authorities accuse Holloway of shooting his Staffordshire Terrier, Clarence, twice in the face in December 2019. Fort Bend County officials say Holloway was the owner of the dog at the time of the shooting and when he was arrested, he admitted to the shooting. Officials went on to say animal abuse will not be tolerated in Fort Bend County and they will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law. If convicted, Holloway could face up to 10 years in prison.

HOUSTON George Floyds body will return to Houston and a Fort Bend funeral home will be handling services, the owner confirmed to KPRC 2 Saturday night. Swearington said he will provide more details on the funeral arrangements Monday. In a Thursday press conference, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said Floyds body will be returning to Houston. HOUSTON – A man accused of shooting his girlfriend has been arrested. Fort Bend county sheriff's deputies said Michael Warren, 58, shot his girlfriend, Sylvia Casares, at a home in the Foster Creek subdivision between Richmond and Fulshear on Monday. Casares, who owns Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, underwent surgery and is expected to recover. Warren fled the scene after the shooting, but he was captured at a Rosenberg motel on Thursday. Warren is in the Fort Bend County Jail with bond set at $100,000.
