HOUSTON – A Houston firefighter is injured and others worked to put out a house fire in northwest Houston Tuesday, officials said. There was an electrical issue, which caused the insulation in the attic to start smoking, firefighters said. Firefighters said they shut off power to the house, pulled out the insulation and the family left. This time, the home was engulfed in flames, and firefighters did their best to put the blaze out. Officials said the injured firefighter is doing okay and was transported to the hospital to get his shoulder checked out.

HOUSTON – A couple in their 70s is recovering after a massive blaze broke out at a home in northeast Houston Thursday, firefighters said. Officials said a fire started at a home located in the 13300 block of Lake Terrace Drive around 10 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters said there were heavy flames and smoke coming from the garage area of the home. According to firefighters, there were no fire hydrants in the area, so after two minutes, HFD ran out of water. Houston firefighters said they requested mutual aid with Sheldon and Crosby and had to use tankers to get water.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas Firefighters in Grand Prairie near Dallas are currently working to put out a large blaze at a plastics factory. According to NBC 5, firefighters confirmed they were called to a fire in the 2000 block of West Marshall Drive, but would not give a specific location. Employees of Poly-America confirmed to NBC 5 the fire is at their plastics facility. NBC 5 says people who live in the area reported brief power outages overnight. Authorities have not yet said whether any injuries have been reported and are investigating to see what caused the fire.

HOUSTON – Firefighters are investigating a blaze that left one person dead at a group home for people with special needs in southwest Houston Tuesday morning. William Habermas lives at the group home. He tried to get all the residents to safety and grabbed a fire extinguisher to fight the flames. “I tried to push it away with a fire extinguisher, but it wouldn’t go away,” Habermas said. Officials say the owner of the home is moving the displaced residents to another group home nearby.

DAYTON, Texas – A bedridden man has died after being trapped in his home during a fire in Dayton Friday, firefighters said. Dayton firefighters said they responded to reports of a residence on fire on Ford and Prater at around 3 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, the wood-frame house was engulfed in flames, firefighters said. Firefighters said the owner of the home, who has been identified as Baron Payne, was trapped inside and died in the blaze. Prior to the arrival of fire officials, Payne’s sister, who lives just a few houses down, attempted to save Payne, firefighters said.
