Asian American familyAn FBI document says a man facing attempted murder charges for stabbing members of a family at a Midland Sam’s Club did so because he thought the Asian Americans were Chinese and “infecting people with the coronavirus,” according to an ABC News report. The 19-year-old suspect admitted he tried to kill the family, according to a Midland Reporter-Telegram article from earlier this month. The ABC News report Monday cites an FBI document that warns of an increase in hate crimes against Asian Americans as the coronavirus crisis magnifies in the United States. As it has gripped America and Texas, the virus has unleashed widespread fear, anti-Chinese sentiments and outright xenophobia among American leaders. Family members stabbed in Midland included a 2-year-old and 6-year-old, according to the document ABC News obtained.

HOUSTON – Astronomy students at the University of Houston prepared for Monday’s eclipse. "It doesn't happen every day,” said Dr. Lawrence Pinsky, a University of Houston physics professor. “And, as a matter of fact, the majority of people, on the earth never have an opportunity to see a total eclipse of the sun. We're not going to see a total eclipse but we're going to see a partial eclipse, about 2/3 of the sun are going to be blocked. If you do not use proper eye protection, you could hurt your eyes, said Dr. Amber Gaume Giannoni, a University of Houston College of Optometry clinical professor.

For those who will be witnessing totality during the Great American Eclipse on Monday, you’re in for a real treat: not only will you see the sun completely blocked by the new moon -- so long as it’s not cloudy -- but it will get eerily dark. Birds may become confused or stop flying. And if you know where to look, you may even be able to spot a hidden planet.

Well, this was the last time America experienced a total solar eclipse. A total solar eclipse, or the phenomena of the moon's orbit aligning perfectly with the Earth and sun creating a "hole in the sky," is very rare to see from land. This total solar eclipse will have points of totality, or places where the sun will appear completely blocked by the moon, all across the country. The 1979 eclipse only had points of totality in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. Here's an example of a few more ways the world has changed since the last solar eclipse:

Here’s what they gathered:Pregnant women "should" …--Wear red and some kind of metal in order to protect the baby. Use a safety pin to fasten the ribbon to your shirt, and then you’ve included the correct color and an appropriate metal into your attire. So for protection, the mother is warned to carry something metallic, such as a safety pin, and wear it close to her unborn child. This kind of goes against the whole safety pin, keys or scissors thing, doesn’t it? As superstition will tell you, many women will deliver their babies on the day of an eclipse, due to the changes in atmosphere.

But rather we are talking about the Great American Total Solar Eclipse. People from all over the world will visit the United States to see this extraordinary sight, where the moon’s shadow will touch the earth. A total solar eclipse last was seen in the continental United States in 1979, when people in the northwest part of the U.S. were able to see it. Should you be unable to see it this time around, when will the next total solar eclipse be seen in parts of the U.S.? From when the total solar eclipse makes its way on land in Oregon to when it leaves the U.S. mainland in South Carolina, it will take a little more than a 90-minute flight across our country.
