LAKE JACKSON, Texas – Parents with children enrolled in Lake Jackson schools said that the past few days have been challenging with a boil order in effect. The City of Lake Jackson is under a boil order and Gov. Abbott issued a disaster declaration for Brazoria county after a 6-year-old died from a parasite found in the water. Officials say the boil water order will be in place until the water system is flushed and disinfected. Tuesday, he is expected to provide an update on the water supply in Lake Jackson.

Greg Abbott signed an order Sunday, extending the disaster declaration for all Texas counties in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. “By extending my Disaster Declaration, we are ensuring the state of Texas continues to have adequate resources and capabilities to support our communities and protect public health,” Abbott said. The governor’s proclamation stated that the coronavirus poses an immediate threat of disaster for all of Texas. About 1,300 people are hospitalized from coronavirus-related complications, according to the state health department. On Saturday, he announced that, with the help of the federal government, the city and county testing sites would be doubling its testing capacity.

TEXAS – President Donald Trump approved the Texas disaster declaration due to the coronavirus Wednesday and ordered federal assistance to help with state and local recovery efforts. The approval will now make federal funding in Texas available for crisis counseling for those impacted across the state. Federal funding will also be available to state, eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency protective measures. This includes direct federal assistance for all areas in Texas impacted by the pandemic. It was not disclosed how much federal aid Texas will receive as an outcome of the declaration.
