A Harris County appeals court heard arguments over whether a complaint against a blood spatter expert, used in AJ Armstrong’s third murder trial, should have been disclosed to the defense. Armstrong’s attorneys say the issue, combined with new DNA evidence, is enough to call for a new hearing or possibly a new trial.

Nearly two years after his conviction, Antonio “AJ” Armstrong Jr.’s legal fight is far from over. The Houston man, found guilty of killing his parents, Dawn and Antonio Armstrong Sr. in 2016, is now preparing for an upcoming appeals hearing that could determine whether he gets a new trial or a chance at freedom.

"Make no mistake of it, our heart goes out to the family. We understand that they're going through a lot. It's just [that] their truth is not the truth," prosecutor John Jordan said during his remarks following the verdict.

Closing arguments were expected to wrap up Tuesday in the third capital murder trial against Antonio “AJ” Armstrong, who is accused of killing his parents at the family’s southwest Houston home in 2016. AJ, now 23 years old and married, was only 16 years old at the time of the murders.
