DALLAS โ€“ A Dallas school district is investigating a high school English teacher who asked students to write about a modern-day hero and listed the 17-year-old accused of killing two people during Wisconsin protests as one possible option. Kyle Rittenhouse has been accused of fatally shooting two people and wounding another in Kenosha following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. The writing assignment also listed Joseph Rosenbaum, one of the protesters Rittenhouse is accused of killing; along with Mahatma Gandhi, Cรฉsar Chรกvez, Malcolm X and George Floyd. The Dallas Independent School District did not release the name of the W. T. White High School teacher who assigned the report. In a statement, the district said: โ€œAn unapproved assignment posted in Google Classroom yesterday has been brought to our attention.

Houston ISD will re-open on Sept. 8 and offer online learning for six weeks. How does that plan compare to other area districts and some of the larger ones across Texas? Area districtsThe majority of area school districts will start school between Aug. 17 and Aug. 24. Goose Creek ISD is the only other school district so far with a start date of Sept. 8 and students there will begin the year virtually for three weeks. Alief ISD, the first school district in the area to announce they will be starting the year virtually, will be the earliest to start off the 2020-2021 school year on Aug. 6.

DALLAS โ€“ Dallas ISD said football on Friday nights may be in doubt for the fall semester, NBC News reported. Football โ€œis a true contact sport,โ€ said Hinojosa. The UIL, which governs high school sports all over Texas said in a statement obtained by NBC news that football is still set for fall. โ€œAs the circumstances around the COVID-19 pandemic are ever-changing, we do not have a specific timetable to release further information. According to Johns Hopkins University, Texans are testing at a positivity rate of 15.53 percent at a rolling seven-day average.
