How the loss of one person is affecting the Flower Gardens

Over 600,000 people took to the streets in more than 1,200 “Hands Off” protests across the United States on Thursday, with three of those demonstrations held in the Houston area.

In the last two years, Aldine ISD has closed nine campuses. The district says these latest closures are due to declining enrollment, lack of affordable housing, and decreased state funding.

Monday was the first day of school for many districts in our area including Cy-Fair ISD. The big topic of discussion was the district’s school bus policy. Many parents expressed their concerns about school bus routes that were cut because of budget cuts. Some parents say the drop-off experience was a little challenging

“It’s not mismanagement by schools,” Alief ISD Deputy Superintendent Charles Woods explained. “We’re all in the same boat that the general public is; we’ve got high inflation, high costs, we have hurricanes coming through, we have all the things we’ve always had, and then we have had six years, three legislative sessions without additional funding just for the basic costs of education.”

Spring Branch ISD has announced more budget cuts as the district moves into the 2024-2025 school year.
