Josiah died Sept. 8, 2020, just days after encountering a deadly brain eating amoeba found in Lake Jackson’s water supply. That’s how the vision for a blue, white and orange, Astros-themed playground came about. With the approval of their education foundation, the educators created an online fundraiser with the hopes of raising $65,000 for the playground. That was until Twila Carter, CEO of The Astros Foundation, walked into the elementary school with a giant check for $65,000. Mohrman said the school will continue to raise money on the online fundraiser to get a plaque and other add-ons for the playground.

HOUSTON – The Houston Health Department administered nearly 3,600 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at Minute Maid Park on Saturday. The Houston Health Department announced Friday a partnership with the Astros Foundation to host Minute Maid Park as a COVID-19 vaccination site on Saturday. Those who do not have an appointment with the health department will be turned away, health officials said. ”The City of Houston is working around the clock to get the COVID-19 vaccine to the public based on available supply. Unfortunately, we are not in control of the vaccine supply and must schedule local vaccines based on vaccine delivery,” Mayor Sylvester Turner said.

HOUSTON In an effort to help with the new-normal student learning environment, the Astros Foundation is offering free, basic on-site support sessions to help adults and parents with using at-home learning technology applications, as well as instruction on navigating school websites. Socially-distanced sessions are being held at the new Bob Watson Education Center at the Astros Youth Academy, located at 2801 Victory Drive. Educators and parents have identified the need for technology support in this current environment. We are offering technology sessions in an effort to familiarize parents with devices, technology applications and school websites. The foundation says participants have come from many school districts, including Aldine, Cy-Fair, Houston, Humble, La Porte, Round Rock, Spring and YES Prep.

The Houston Astros could potentially have a stadium full of fans this season. The team has joined a handful of MLB teams that will fill their stands with cardboard cutouts of their biggest supporters. According to a report by CNBC, the trend was first seen in Europe when the German soccer team Borussia Mnchengladbach placed more than 12,000 cardboard cutouts of fans in seats at its stadium. Hoping for Minute Maid Park to look the same way, the Astros organization is accepting $100 donations in exchange for fans cardboard cutout to have a seat during home games. Cutouts will be placed in the Crawford Boxes, Houston Methodist Hall of Fame Alley, Budweiser Patio and Bullpen.
