At the end of January, Aldine ISD's best swimmers took to the pool to try and punch their tickets to the Region IV Championships at the District 15-6A Championships. When the scores were all compiled MacArthur women's swimming team took second place overall, led by Carmen Pedraza, Gissele Rodriguez, and Georgina Aguinaga. The Nimitz women's team took fourth, guided by Bailey Johnson. Aldine Davis men took third place overall – led by strong relay teams – while Eisenhower men finished fourth. No matter the school district, failure rates for the first grading period, among those learning virtually, are much higher than failure rates during the same period last year, according to an analysis of data conducted by KPRC 2. After reporting 42% of students enrolled in Houston Independent School District failed at least one course during the first six weeks of the school year, KPRC 2 sent requests to 10 Houston-area school districts for failure rates among virtual students vs in-person students. The 2020 Fall season has been a fast and furious one as sports have picked up steam. The founders of a local non-profit think they have the answer -- blending culture into the classroom.
