HOUSTON – Four people were wounded Tuesday during a shooting in Houston’s Acres Homes neighborhood. The shooting was reported about 6:15 p.m. on West Little York at Knox Street. Two of them were listed in critical condition and the other two were listed in stable condition, Bryant said. Houston police said they believe a Chevrolet Impala may have been the type of vehicle used in the shooting. Byant said there was a shooting at the same convenience store on Jan. 3, but he did not say if the two shootings were related.

HOUSTON – The U.S. Army came to Houston Tuesday to prepare for the opening of a new COVID-19 wing at the United Memorial Medical Center, which is staffed entirely by Army personnel. The hospital is currently treating about 40 COVID-19 patients and has another 20 beds available, but not enough doctors and nurses to man them. “They’re bringing new physicians, they’re bringing a lot of nurses, bringing medics. What we need to provide better service to our patients.”The unit is the Army’s Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force. Anyone who thinks we’re at the end of it,” said Congresswoman Shelia Jackson LeeThe Army medics plan to begin treating patients Thursday.

HOUSTON – A man died late Thursday night after being shot and then run over by a car, according to police. The shooting was reported about 10:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of South Victory Drive. Houston police said officers arrived and found a man’s body in the road. Investigators said the victim had been shot at least once, but they weren’t sure if he was run over before or after the shooting. The man is known to walk in the area, police said.

HOUSTON – Neighbors and city of Houston officials claim Soto Ready Mix is the source of serious environmental and health issues in Acres Homes. Residents said they are being backed by major political players as they work to stop the planned expansion of the concrete company. Soto Ready Mix sits on the corner of T.C. “The disrespect and the arrogance of facilities of this kind being situated in the neighborhood are unacceptable in the city of Houston,” Turner said. The owner of Soto Ready Mix did not respond to KPRC’s request for comment.

HOUSTON – A man was saved from a burning house Monday in the Acres Homes neighborhood, just north of Houston. Not much was left of the home after firefighters pulled the man from the burning building. Neighbors said they saw the flames and rushed to help the man. “They just saw the initial blaze (and tried) to break the window (to) try to get him help,” said neighbor Marcus Owens. The man, who neighbors said is in his 50s, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
