Tarik Minor

Anchor, I-TEAM reporter

Tarik Minor hit the ground running at WJXT Channel 4 in March of 2010, quickly establishing himself as an aggressive go-getter with a passion for storytelling.

Before moving to Jacksonville, Tarik worked at WKMG-TV, Local 6, in Orlando as the Volusia County bureau chief for 10 years, where he was responsible for covering news in 16 cities daily.

Tarik has extensive live shot experience and anchoring capabilities, presenting news coverage to a local and national audience. But Tarik's life story changed when he met Melanie Lawson while covering a trial in St. Augustine 2006. Lawson, who anchors "The Morning Show" for WJXT, and Tarik eventually began dating, fell in love and were married in the fall of 2009. The two now work together in the same newsroom, with a shared commitment to the community.

Tarik holds a degree in mass communications from James Madison University in his native state of Virginia. He concentrated on electronic media, which fits his love for music. He's been playing the guitar since age four and composes songs.

Tarik also has a video production company and says he' d like to produce a documentary someday . Tarik news career began in Washington D.C at NBC 4 as a production assistant. He took his first reporting job in Alexandria, La., and then moved on to Baton Rouge before moving to the Sunshine State.

Florida suits his love for the outdoors. Tarik is an avid surfer and enjoys doing anything adventurous and out of the norm. In the meantime he keeps Jacksonville up to date on WJXT news weekdays, reporting and co-anchoring the 4 p.m. newscast with Rebecca Barry and the 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. newscasts with Joy Purdy.
