The Houston Astros are calling up right-handed reliever Logan VanWey, a league source tells KPRC 2 Sports.
VanWey will join the Astros in Seattle before their series against the division rival Mariners. The reliever had a dominant spring, giving up just two earned runs in 13.2 innings pitched, to the tune of a 1.32 ERA with 15 strikeouts.
Van Wey has pitched four innings for Triple-A Sugar Land this season, giving up two runs and striking out seven.
The Astros have a full 40-man roster and will have to make a move to clear a spot for the purchase of Van Wey’s contract.
The Astros will option RHP Luis Contreras to clear a 26-man roster spot for VanWey. Contreras gave up 3 earned runs in 2.1 innings against the Twins Sunday, throwing 39 pitches.
