Think you’re really good at UNO? You could win $50,000

UNO just got a lot more serious — and there’s $50,000 on the table.

UNO just got a lot more serious — and there’s $50,000 on the table.

Mattel is turning the classic card game into a competitive sport with the launch of the UNO Championship Series, giving players a chance to compete for a $50,000 grand prize and the title of the first UNO Championship Series tournament champion.

The championship is set for Nov. 11 in Los Angeles and will stream live on Twitch.

Think you have what it takes to go from family game-night champion to professional UNO player?

There will be several ways to qualify for the tournament.

Mattel has announced in-person qualifying events in three U.S. cities:

  • Orlando: Oct. 3
  • Chicago: Oct. 10
  • Los Angeles: Oct. 17

Players will also have the opportunity to qualify digitally through the UNO! Mobile app, while UNO fans around the world will have opportunities to compete for a spot.

The winner of the championship will walk away with $50,000.

The championship is part of Mattel’s effort to take UNO beyond the traditional kitchen-table game and turn it into a live entertainment experience.

The company is also releasing a line of UNO Championship Series products, including tournament-style gameplay, an official championship belt and a card shuffler.

The live championship will feature top players competing in front of an audience, with the event streamed on Twitch.

So those years of arguing over whether you remembered to yell “UNO” might finally pay off.

The qualifying events begin Oct. 3 in Orlando, followed by Chicago on Oct. 10 and Los Angeles on Oct. 17.

The $50,000 championship event will take place Nov. 11 in Los Angeles.

For anyone who has ever claimed they are unbeatable at UNO, there’s now an official way to put that claim to the test — and potentially make $50,000 doing it.
