Construction worker killed in work-zone crash on Gulf Freeway

HOUSTON – A construction worker was killed Sunday night after being hit by a work vehicle in a construction zone along the Gulf Freeway, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near the Dixie Farm Road exit.

Investigators said a construction crew was in the process of closing lanes when a work vehicle backed up and struck a construction worker.

The worker died at the scene.

Police said the driver of the work vehicle and a passenger remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators.

Authorities have not released the identity of the worker, and it is unclear whether any charges will be filed.
