According to the retailer, the recall was initiated after the company received consumer complaints about some wipes becoming discolored. Subsequent testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration detected the presence of a bacteria that may cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections, particularly in babies and young children.
Target said it has also received reports of eye irritation, skin irritation and some infections that may be associated with the use of the recalled wipes.
Health officials warn that exposure to contaminated products can be especially dangerous for infants, young children and people with weakened immune systems.
Customers who purchased the affected baby wipes are urged to stop using them immediately and check product information to determine whether their packages are included in the recall.
Consumers can return recalled products to Target for a refund and should contact a healthcare provider if they believe they or their child experienced an adverse reaction after using the wipes.
Additional information about the recalled products, including lot numbers and refund details, is available through Target and the FDA.
