Fort Bend ISD presents proposed plan to shut down 7 elementary schools, adding 1 new middle school

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The School Board Advisory Committee for the Fort Bend ISD presented proposed plans for elementary school consolidations and a new middle school during Monday night’s board meeting.

The committee’s proposed plan includes shutting down these elementary schools:

  • Austin Parkway ES
  • Dulles ES
  • Fleming ES
  • Glover ES
  • Mission West ES
  • Ridgegate ES
  • Sugar Mill ES

Campuses with no change to students include:

  • Brazos Bend
  • Burton
  • Colony Meadows
  • Ferguson
  • Goodman
  • Henry
  • Jones
  • Oakland
  • Oyster Creek
  • Parks
  • Quail Valley
  • Schiff
  • Sienna Crossing
  • Sullivan

The committee explained that the changes are to balance enrollment while using district resources responsibly.

The district also shared plans for the new middle school, Amy Coleman, located on 22200 S Post Oak Blvd in Arcola.

In the proposed plan, 724 students from Thornton would be rezoned to Coleman, and 48 students from Baines would be rezoned to Coleman.

District officials said these are draft proposals only, and no decision has been finalized.

Next steps include boundary plans for review and feedback in January, then a board workshop in February, and the Board of Trustees is expected to vote in March.
