PEARLAND, Texas – A group of dedicated volunteers is behind a new 501c3 to benefit the Pearland Animal Shelter.
Gina Brigham recently founded the nonprofit, Pearland Pet Crew – Friends of the city of Pearland Animal Services, after years of volunteering at the shelter. That’s where she met fellow volunteers, Pam, Michelle, Anita and Rachel. They’re excited about what this new nonprofit will be able to accomplish.
“To get these dogs and cats adopted, that’s the ultimate goal,” Brigham says.
One of their first goals is raising enough money to buy play equipment for the dogs to help them decompress. Pets typically spend most of the time in their kennels, so getting them out into the play yard helps them release energy and show their true personalities. That break from confinement can help pets feel better, improve behavior and increase their chances of being adopted.
“These animals need us,” says volunteer Pam McPherson. “It makes you feel so good when you leave for the day and you’ve made a difference in a pet’s life.”
Pearland Pet Crew is holding its kickoff event, Deck The Paws, Saturday, December 6, at the Pearland Animal Shelter at 8311 Freedom Drive. It runs from 11am until 2pm, and visitors can enjoy pictures with Santa Paws, arts and crafts and a playgroup demonstration.
