League City father’s work truck stolen, police warn of theft spree

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – League City police are warning residents about a rise in stolen trucks, especially targeting newer-model GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados.

Carolina Mendoza says her father’s GMC Denali was stolen early Saturday morning from their neighborhood in the Marbella subdivision.

“His truck was fully loaded with all his tools,” said Mendoza.

Video from a neighbor shows the act taking place around 3 a.m. in about one minute.

Mendoza said her father initially thought he misplaced it.

“He couldn’t believe it was happening,” said Mendoza.

When the family called police, they learned other neighbors had been hit too.

“When he called they told him immediately three other trucks had been broken in that same night,” said Mendoza.

KPRC 2 learned from neighbors at least seven trucks in the Mar Bella subdivision were targeted.

The theft has left her father unable to work.

“It’s been very hard. He doesn’t have any equipment, a truck or anything,” Mendoza said.

She estimates the stolen tools are worth about $25,000 and said insurance will not cover it.

“We’re just, you know, praying and having faith that someone will see the truck and report it,” said Mendoza.

League City Police Department says thieves are specifically targeting 2020 and newer GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados, and investigations are ongoing.

LCPD recommends residents:

  • Use aftermarket anti-theft devices (steering wheel locks, kill switches, GPS trackers)
  • Keep vehicles locked and remove key fobs
  • Park in well-lit areas or garages
  • Ensure home security cameras cover the driveway, sidewalk, and street

If you spot suspicious people or vehicles overnight, police say to call LCPD immediately at 281-332-2566.

Anyone with information about the recent thefts is asked to contact Detective Evans at 281-554-1863.
