CYPRESS, Texas – If you’ve ever considered buying a dashcam for your car, maybe this is your sign!
A Cypress-area man has been arrested after investigators say he was caught by a dash camera repeatedly damaging another driver’s pickup truck outside a retail store last month.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a criminal mischief report on Nov. 15 outside a business in the 14200 block of Cypress Rosehill.
The victim told deputies he had parked his truck and gone inside the store. When he returned, he found extensive damage to the front and sides of his vehicle.
Luckily, his dashcam captured who was responsible for the destruction.
Surveillance video later shared by Grizzy’s Hood News on Facebook appeared to capture the incident. Grizzy gave KPRC 2 permission to share the footage.
The man alerted HCSO deputies to the footage, which showed a man parking in front of the victim’s truck, then lowering the tailgate of his own vehicle multiple times until it struck the parked truck.
The suspect is also seen kicking the side of the truck several times, and yelling “don’t park like that!” in frustration before driving away.
The damage totaled more than $5,135.02, court records said.
Through surveillance footage from the parking lot and inside the store where the incident took place, authorities were able to identify the alleged suspect as Ricky Anderson, 46.
Prosecutors accepted a charge of felony criminal mischief — which is defined as conduct causing property damage between $2,500 and $30,000.
On Wednesday, HCSO Detectives and the District 5 Crime Reduction Unit located Anderson, took him into custody, and booked him into the Harris County Jail, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.
No additional details about a possible motive were released. The case remains under investigation.
