Firefighter falls through floor as crews battle large northwest Houston apartment fire

While battling a large apartment fire in northwest Houston on Monday, a firefighter with the Houston Fire Department fell through a floor but was not injured. Before returning to work, the firefighter had to be evaluated. The fire destroyed at least 18 units at the apartment complex.

Suspect shot multiple times after SE Houston homeowner opens fire during attempted break-in

The homeowner caught the two men trying to break into his home and started shooting at them. Police said the homeowner shot one of the suspects multiple times, but was also injured when one of the suspects started shooting back. Now, the homeowner and the suspect both have been hospitalized. The second suspect was able to get away.

‘How could you do that to an old man?’: 15-year sentence for man who attacked senior with dementia

Almost two years after a 30-year-old man brutally attacked an elderly man with dementia outside of a north Houston pawn shop, he has been sentenced to prison. Surveillance video of the incident was released and showed the elderly man confused and trying to get into the 30-year-old’s car. The 30-year-old thought the man was trying to break into his vehicle and started fighting the elderly man.

New SafeWatch dashboard will map gun violence data in Houston

A new system is coming to the city of Houston today, and it’s the first of its kind. In a KPRC 2 exclusive, Anchor Keith Garvin found out details about the city’s new SafeWatch dashboard that will help curb gun violence. The dashboard will be open to the public: families, renters, professionals, entrepreneurs, non-profits, and houses of worship. All will be able to access the SafeWatch site, which collects data points from the trauma centers, law enforcement, and medical examiners. Shootings are broken down according to zip code, age, timeframe, and even unintentional shootings versus homicides. You will also know if the shooting was connected to domestic violence or suicide.
