When they arrived, investigators say they found an active fighting ring and a gambling area behind a business advertising tacos and drinks. They immediately detained several people and began processing the scene.

Several dead roosters were discovered inside black bags on the property, according to deputies. Living roosters were also found in a mobile home.

Around 60 animals were seized in total.

Deputies also located a fighting ring where the matches involving the birds likely took place. Metal spurs and other items believed to be cockfighting paraphernalia were recovered.

Detectives with the HCSO Animal Cruelty Unit later responded to the scene. It’s not yet clear how many people were tied to the operation or what charges they may face. Those who attended the fight were issued Class C misdemeanors.

KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding is working to set up an interview with HCSO on the investigation.
