Hedwig Village officer used license plate reader to locate suspects accused of shooting HPD officer

HOUSTON, Texas – A Hedwig Village police officer is being praised for jumping into action to help the Houston Police Department find the suspects who shot one of their officers during a road rage incident on Sunday.

Houston police officer Jake Parker was headed into work when he was shot on Gennser and Hempstead in a suspect road rage incident.

Houston Police Chief Now Diaz is praising the work of a Hedwig Village officer, who he said helped track down the suspects after the shooting.

After shooting Officer Parker, investigators said 23-year-old Homero Reyes fled the scene along with two other suspects who were inside his vehicle.

When Houston police released details of the suspect’s vehicle, they said the Hedwig Village Officer entered the vehicle’s description into a license plate reader and was able to locate the vehicle.

Instead of immediately pulling over the vehicle, the officer trailed the suspects until more officers arrived.

Houston police were able to deploy several units and their helicopter and stopped the suspects in Missouri City.

Reyes, along with two others, was arrested. Reyes has since been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A judge set his bond at $60,000.
