One killed, multiple injured in shooting at southwest Houston event space

HOUSTON – A late-night gathering in southwest Houston turned deadly early Saturday morning when gunfire erupted at an event space located between South Post Oak and Vandalia Way.

According to police, what began as a large social event quickly turned violent, when multiple people began firing. Police believe at least two individuals fired weapons during the incident.

One woman was killed in the chaos.

Lucy Johnson, the victim’s daughter, spoke about the tragic loss of her mother.

“She hadn’t been out to this event in a long time... She was actually getting ready to leave and she got shot.”

Officers arrived just before 2 a.m. to find that multiple people had suffered gunshot wounds in the area near the Beltway. Investigators said a total of six people were shot.

Five survivors were transported to the hospital, some by ambulance and others in private vehicles.

Detectives are still working to determine what led up to the shooting and who opened fire first. Authorities are also interviewing witnesses and reviewing available video as the investigation continues.
