The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at the McDonald’s at 32323 SH-249, which is at the intersection with Decker Prairie Road.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said they had contact with the suspect earlier in the morning after getting a call of a man threatening suicide at a cemetery in Magnolia. Deputies arrived and attempted to detain the man, but he was able to evade custody and fled into Harris County.

Later on Monday morning, Montgomery County deputies were informed that the man was at the McDonald’s off Highway 249. Multiple units from both the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded and attempted to make contact with the man, who had barricaded himself inside the bathroom at the restaurant.

As deputies were trying to talk to the man and deescalate the situation, the man told deputies he had a gun and refused to comply or surrender.

The man ultimately shot himself. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as 21-year-old Shane Moresco. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office had previously accepted charges against Moresco related to an earlier incident Monday morning, including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Family Violence) and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle.

“The incident is under joint investigation by several agencies, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office,” the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said.
