HOUSTON – Our pet of the week segments always feature an animal in need, but, this week, that need is especially great.
We’re highlighting a senior dog named Hollie who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
This 10-year old Belgian Malinois needs a hospice foster or adopter to live out her remaining days with plenty of love, support and dignity.
Adopted as a puppy a decade ago from Houston Humane, she was returned to the shelter when her owner was unable to care for her medical needs.
KPRC 2’s Lisa Hernandez sat down with Houston Humane veterinary technician, Bri Walker, to talk about Hollie’s case.
“Holly was diagnosed with nasal cancer that we, unfortunately, are unable to treat,” Walker said. “We’re trying to find her an adopter or foster who can help her live out the rest of her life comfortably.”
Hollie takes medication in the morning and afternoon, and Houston Humane provides all medication to her foster or adopter at no cost.
“We’re looking for an adopter or foster who has experience with medical care for dogs who won’t shy away from being a steadfast helper for Hollie as she deals with this unfortunate illness,” said Marketing Associate Tiana Bell.
Hollie will need to be the only pet in the home. If you can help Hollie, or have more questions about what’s needed for her care, please reach out to Houston Humane at 713-433-6421, or visit them at 14700 Almeda Road.
