Celebrate Halloween in Houston: Festivals, costume contests, and kids’ activities

Houston is gearing up for a Halloween with a wide range of family-friendly events across the city, from trunk-or-treats and costume contests to interactive story times and pumpkin festivals.

Here’s a look at some of the Halloween events happening across the Houston area:

Houston Public Library is celebrating Halloween with a variety of spooky programs for all ages. All this week through Halloween, families can enjoy fall-themed parties at ten library locations featuring crafts, games, prizes, and other activities. Costumes are encouraged, and some locations will hold costume contests.

Kids and families to the HPL’s Halloween Boo Book Bash, featuring spooky stories, hands-on crafts, and seasonal treats. The event takes place Oct.30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the McCrane-Kashmere Gardens Neighborhood Library. Costumes are encouraged

Houston Premium Outlets is hosting a Spook-tacular Halloween event on Thursday, October 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. Families can enjoy pumpkin decorating for the first 150 guests, balloon art, face painting, a costume contest, trick-or-treat scavenger hunt, festive photo opportunities, and other seasonal activities outside the food court at 29300 Hempstead Road in Cypress.

All Hallows Read festivals offer games, crafts, live music, and more at several library locations. Celebrate in costume and enjoy a day of interactive activities on Oct. 30, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Looscan Neighborhood Library and 6 to 7:30 p.m. at McGovern-Stella Link Regional Library.

RYSS STEM Academy in Pasadena is hosting a community Trunk or Treat on Oct. 30, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Families can enjoy decorated trunks, costume contests, games, music, sweet treats, and a photo booth at 1062 Fairmont Parkway.

Grooves of Houston is hosting a free Trunk or Treat Community Day on Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 2300 Pierce St., Houston, TX 77003. Families can enjoy a kids’ costume contest, a complimentary spooky maze, a best-decorated trunk contest, and safe trick-or-treating in the heart of Houston’s historic 3rd Ward.

Historic Downtown Rosenberg is hosting the Boogeyman Bash on Oct.31, from 5-8 p.m. at Water Tower Square, 2100 Ave G. Families can enjoy trick-or-treating with downtown merchants, trunk-or-treating hosted by local businesses, a children’s costume contest, games, food trucks, and other Halloween surprises. The event is free and open to the public.

The Savoy in Houston’s Third Ward is shutting down part of Emancipation Avenue for its Fourth Annual Halloween & Anniversary Bash, featuring a free family-friendly Halloween Kids’ Fest on Oct. 31, from 7 to 9 p.m. Families can enjoy food, trunk-or-treating, costume contests, and a “not-so-spooky” haunted house before the celebration turns adults-only at 9 p.m. The Halloween party also includes themed cocktails, contests, and live entertainment.

Goode Company Kitchen & Cantina in Houston’s River Oaks neighborhood is hosting a ticketed Halloween celebration on Oct. 31, from 7 p.m. to midnight. Guests can enjoy craft cocktails, elevated bites, live mariachi, a DJ, and a costume contest with prizes including Goode Co. gift cards and exclusive cocktail experiences. General admission tickets are $50 and include two cocktails and chef-selected bites, while VIP table service offers reserved seating and bottle service.

Juliet Steakhouse is hosting an exclusive murder mystery dinner on Halloween night, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m. Guests can enjoy a four-course meal featuring Caesar salad, appetizers like crispy Thai chile shrimp or crab cakes, entrées including New York strip, lobster, Cajun fettuccine Alfredo, or lamb rack, and a chocolate dessert while participating in an interactive murder mystery. Costumes are encouraged, and reservations are required as space is limited.

TEJAS is hosting a community Halloween party at 7 p.m., 2101 Summer Street, inviting guests to enjoy an evening surrounded by art installations, local creativity, and festive fun in a colorful, welcoming space.

Cheba Hut at 2015 Edwards Street is turning up the Halloween fun with a costume party starting at 10 p.m. Guests can enjoy music, great food, and a lively, laid-back atmosphere perfect for ending spooky season on a high note.

Pumpkins After Dark has transformed Big Rivers Waterpark & Adventure in New Caney into a glowing Halloween attraction with more than 10,000 hand-carved pumpkins. The family-friendly walk-through features illuminated displays of dragons, dinosaurs, and fall scenes, complete with lights, sounds, and seasonal treats. The event runs through Nov. 2.
