Thompson twins square off as Rockets host Pistons in first home game of NBA season

At long last, the Rockets are back in Houston.

After more than five months, the Houston Rockets will return to the Toyota Center for their first home game of the 2025-26 NBA regular season.

Their opponent? The Detroit Pistons. Friday’s matchup will be the latest chapter in a cross-conference pairing that boasts one of the NBA’s most unique narratives: A matchup between the NBA’s premiere twin brothers.

Houston’s Amen Thompson and Detroit’s Ausar Thompson will be going head-to-head, and it’s safe to assume they’ll get some work in isolation.

Both Thompsons rose to national prominence after deciding to forgo college basketball in favor of the Overtime Elite professional development league. Amen was drafted to Houston fourth overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. Ausar didn’t have to wait much longer, being taken by Detroit with the very next pick.

The Rockets and Pistons both enter Friday’s showdown looking for their first win, entering with 0-1 records. The Rockets fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road in a 125-124 double-overtime crusher on opening night.

The Pistons’ loss came on Wednesday, when Detroit erased a 23-point deficit and came up just short in a 115-111 loss.
