Nearly 878,000 families across the Greater Houston area and surrounding counties may not receive SNAP benefits in November.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — better known as SNAP — provides monthly benefits to help families afford groceries. If the government shutdown continues, benefits could stop for millions nationwide, including those hundreds of thousands right here locally.
Texas Health and Human Services tells KPRC 2, “SNAP benefits for November won’t be issued if the federal government shutdown continues past Oct. 27.”
Bottom line? Hundreds of thousands of Houston-area households, on top of unpaid federal workers, could soon face empty shelves at home.
