‘It was an incredible rescue’: Seabrook firefighter rescues woman after her car plunges into water

A Seabrook firefighter pulled a 19-year-old woman from her car after she accidentally drove it into water at the Seabrook Shipyard and Marina late Friday night.

“It was an incredible rescue and truly saved her life,” said Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department Chief Nathan Douglas. “The vehicle was submerged and barely sticking out of the water.”

Chief Douglas said Seabrook’s first responders rushed in from police, fire and EMS. The hero of the night was Assistant Fire Chief Andy Castiglione who is also a Task Force 1 urban search and rescue member and rescue swimmer, according to Douglas.

“He immediately went into action. . .put on his life-saving vest and throw ropes and was able to get into the water and save her,” said Douglas.

A number of neighbors who live on their boats at the marina jumped in the water to help.

“And so we can definitely credit our assistant chief for a lifesaving action tonight and we’re very proud of him for the actions that happened and all the people that came together to make this happen, including our dispatch center.”

We know the woman survived and we’re trying to find out more about her condition. We’ll add that information when we get it.
