HOUSTON – As the new school year approaches, a Third Ward business is stepping up to give local students a boost before they head back to class.
Grooves of Houston is hosting a back-to-school block party this Saturday, August 9, offering free backpacks, school supplies, free haircuts for boys, and mini manicures for girls.

The party is open to the public and designed to both celebrate and support the community.
Organizers say the event will bring together families, educators, and community leaders to help ensure every child feels prepared and excited for the upcoming school year.

Organizers say the event will also provide lunch options like hot dogs—at no cost to attendees.
It’s an effort to ensure kids return to the classroom not only prepared, but also feeling confident.
“This event is about more than just supplies,” said Felicia Drake, owner of Grooves. “It’s about showing up for our community and making sure every child feels seen, supported, and ready.”

Grooves of Houston, a longtime Third Ward venue known for both entertainment and community events, is partnering with local organizations, including 97.9 The Box, The Weekend, The Spot Edo, and Legends Barber College, to bring the event to life.
