HOUSTON – More than 100 Houston-area women gathered for the first-ever Power of 7 women’s conference, an event dedicated to empowering women financially.
Hosted by the C.J. Stroud Foundation, the conference offered attendees valuable skills such as budgeting, managing credit, building an online brand, and even asking an employer for a raise.
The event was held in partnership with the Women’s Resource and TDECU.
Participants learned practical tools to improve their financial health, including how to budget, fix credit scores, and build an online presence.
With 40% of Houstonians living in financial distress, the conference aimed to address a critical need.
“We know that the face of poverty in Houston is almost always that of a woman,” a TDECU representative said. “To be able to provide services to women who are in need.”
Women attending the event shared stories of resilience and strength.
Kim Stroud, the mother of Houston Texans’ quarterback C.J. Stroud, spoke about her own financial struggles as a single mother supporting two children.
“To be honest, I didn’t have financial literacy. I had survivalist literacy, and that’s really all I knew — was survival,” Kim said.
She said the conference embodies the kind of empowerment her son wants to support.
“[C.J.] believes in planting a seed to help them grow so they can continue to flourish,” Kim said.
The event was truly about planting seeds of preparation and hope.
“I never knew my life would pivot this way,” Kim added. “I never thought I would have more than one zero in my bank account. You just never know. So preparation is key.”
