The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened at around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday when deputies responded to Deretchin Elementary, located at the 11000 block of Merit Oaks Drive.

The sheriff’s office said deputies received a 911 call from a man, who made alarming threats, stating he would shoot up the school if law enforcement did not come there.

Deputies arrived and found the 21-year-old man on school property. They said the man was actively harming himself and displaying weapons.

Deputies used less-lethal measures in order to take the man into custody. He was found to be in possession of a knife and a realistic looking airsoft pistol.

The man was transported to a hospital where he will be given a comprehensive mental health evaluation. He will be charged with the 3rd degree felony of possessing a weapon where prohibited.

“We are committed to the safety of our schools and communities. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, help is available. Dial 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline,” the sheriff’s office said.
