As injuries to starting pitchers continue to pile on for the Houston Astros, the team is turning to a reliever for tonight’s game against the Athletics.

Tuesday night, Houston will start reliever Jason Alexander, who will make his first start against his former team.

Alexander will be making his first start of the 2025 season and his first appearance with the Astros.

He started the season pitching for the Athletics but was designated for assignment in May 16. Two days later, he was claimed off waivers by the ‘Stros.

Through those four appearances with the A’s, he has recorded five strikeouts and allowed 12 hits, 12 earned runs and five walks through 6.0 innings.

Alexander’s first start comes as Houston’s injury woes continue to haunt the starting pitching unit.

Starting arms Cristian Javier, J.P. France, and Luis Garcia have not appeared yet in the 2024 season due injuries.

Additionally, starters Ronel Blanco and Hayden Wesneski have been ruled out for the season to receive Tommy John surgery, and Spencer Arrighetti was placed on the 60-day injured list three days ago after fracturing his thumb during pre-game workouts.

Alexander will be facing off against the Athletics’ starter JP Sears tonight. First pitch is slated for 9:05 p.m.
