The 27-year-old right-handed pitcher made five appearances for the Astros this season, recording eight strikeouts and allowing nine hits and six walks with a 12.27 ERA.
After being drafted with the 17th overall pick of the first round in the 2016 MLB Draft, Whitley didn’t make his major league debut until 2024.
He was called up to the 40-man roster back in 2020, but he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2021 before ever making an MLB appearance.
