Brown throws 6 scoreless innings; Astros beat Rays in 1-0 shutout

The Houston Astros took down the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 1-0 to close out their four-game series with each team winning two games.

Hunter Brown took the mound for his 12th start of the 2025 season. He threw 93 pitches across 6.0 scoreless innings of action, striking out five batters and allowing one hit and four walks.

Houston’s lone run came in the bottom of the first inning, when a single from Christian Walker allowed Jeremy Pena to score from second base.

The Astros finished with four hits, two of which were from Pena. Jacob Melton, who was making his MLB debut in center field, also recorded his first career hit with an infield single in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the ninth, Astros’ closer Josh Hader earned the save with a three-up, three-down frame.

The win lifts Houston to 32-27 on the year, while Tampa Bay falls to 30-29.

The Astros have tomorrow off, and their next game will be visiting the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 p.m.
